Writing Tips For Students: How Do You Create An Essay?
Creation of an essay starts immediately after you receive such a task from your teacher. Though you normally have more than one evening to compose it at home, you can handle such a task very quickly if you manage your time.
- Start with asking all the questions you have immediately after class. Ask about the deadline, the way the project should be formatted, the writing style you are expected to use, the topic you need to choose, etc. It’s better if all these matters are settled down at once.
-
Choose several topics. You should never choose only one except situations when you know for sure that the chosen one is the thing you need to compose a brilliant essay. Choose several options and make sure that you can change the topic once you find out that the previous one causes you problems.
-
Find out whether the topic has enough reference material. The source information is especially important if you are writing an argumentative paper or describe historical events.
-
Prepare a working place. Some students write better if they do it in the library of their school. They have all the necessary reference material at hand while all the things that can distract their attention are at home. Others cannot concentrate in a strange environment, so it’s better to find a place to feel comfortable and able to work at the same time. Arrange everything in an accurate way, so that you have all the tools and reference books within your reach.
-
Create an outline. You need it no matter which type of essay you are writing. Without an outline, you can be lost in confusion and make a mess of your project. An outline will help keep all your thoughts in order.
-
Start the composition with your body paragraphs. The intro, conclusions and thesis statement (in case you need them) should be written when the main part of your own research is done. This is how you can match the goal to the result.
-
Balance your thoughts and source information. No matter what you are writing, you need to remember that you are supposed to express your mind in the first turn. The reference material that you have found is great, yet, you are not writing a review of other people’s works, but your own research. Make sure that your thoughts dominate in all the parts of your essay while reference material is there only to prove that your point of view is correct.
